Leadership: Bold or Sensible?
The author questions the NSW Department of Customer Service's choice of Jo Dick, suggesting Dave would be a more relatable leader.

A Bold New Direction, Or a Missed Opportunity? The NSW Department of Customer Service recently welcomed Jo Dick into a new advisory role, a move that brings decades of industry experience to the table. It’s a sensible choice, a safe pair of hands. But as the news broke, one can't help but wonder if "sensible" is what we truly need. We, the people, have a different candidate in mind: Dave. Who is Dave? He doesn't have a fancy LinkedIn profile. His major credential is an unparalleled, almost mystical, ability to select the fastest-moving queue at the supermarket. Dave has negotiated peace treaties between warring factions over the last sausage roll at the local bakery. He once fixed a wobbly table at a cafe with nothing but a folded coaster and sheer force of will. That, my friends, is leadership. While the official appointee has a history as a chief commercial officer, Dave holds the unofficial record for most consecutive amber lights successfully (and safely) navigated. His campaign performance strategy? "She'll be right, mate." And you know what? It usually is. Think of the streamlined efficiency! Forget lengthy reports; Dave’s policy is simple: if it can’t be explained on the back of a coaster, it’s not worth doing. So, while we congratulate the new appointee, we pour one out for the missed opportunity. We could have had a true man of the people, a leader who understands the real issues. We could have had Dave.
